Employees of the Main Investigation Department of the South Ural Police sent to the court 17 volumes of criminal cases against a 42-year-old Chelyabinsk resident accused of hacking a commercial database. The cases were initiated on the grounds of crimes under Part 2 of Article 272 (illegal access to digital information) and Part 2 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of malicious programs).
Operatives of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region found that using a program to bypass the protection of digital data, a hacker broke into the user base of a commercial organization and gained access to personal data of their accounts. The purpose of hacking was to use their personal accounts for self-serving purposes: more than 30 people were affected by the actions of the hacker.
Currently, the indictment has been approved by the prosecutor, and if found guilty under the above-mentioned articles, the hacker faces imprisonment for up to four and up to five years.
