Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin shared his assumptions about possible steps taken by leading technology companies in the event of a further escalation of the military conflict.
According to Gorelkin, if the situation moves to a new, more acute stage, the American corporations Apple and Google may decide to take unprecedented measures against Russian users of their products. In this scenario, it is possible that Apple will completely block the operation of iPhone smartphones in Russia, and Google will disable unsolicited devices based on the Android operating system.
"The switch is ready or not-I can't tell you. I am not allowed to access this state secret. I can only, as a deputy, speculate in an expert way," Gorelkin said in an interview with the host Ilya Gogua.
The deputy admitted that such steps on the part of technology giants will be followed by retaliatory measures from the Russian authorities. At the same time, Gorelkin expressed the hope "that this will never happen."
