Scammers promised the woman the opportunity to earn 10 thousand dollars on investments, for which she had to transfer funds under the guise of"deposits".
The Ukrainian woman got "hooked" by scammers and invested almost UAH 5.5 million in a fictitious brokerage company. This is reported by the police of the Ternopil region.
Law enforcement officers report that the woman became interested in investing after seeing information about it from one of the bloggers. She immediately purchased a training course and paid 16 thousand hryvnias for registering an account on the brokerage company's website.
Fraudsters often called the woman and promised her to earn 10 thousand dollars a quarter, for which she had to transfer funds to them under the guise of"deposits".
At first, the woman transferred money to the bank cards of fraudsters. When she gave the fictitious company 600 thousand hryvnias, she received the first "profit" in the amount of 28 thousand hryvnias.
After some time, the attackers convinced the woman to transfer money not in hryvnia, but in dollars and to a crypto wallet. In order to replenish her "financial portfolio", she borrowed funds and took out loans. In total, for 4 months, she gave almost UAH 5.5 million to a fictitious brokerage company.
Investment Fraud
It is not uncommon for Ukrainians to meet with scammers who, under the guise of various companies and offers, try to extort money. One of these schemes is allegedly investing in cryptocurrency, when scammers promising large profits from investments steal funds from their victims.
The police say that before working with investment funds, you need to check their license, reputation and texts of user agreements in order not to be deceived. Also, one of the features of scammers is usually an obsessive offer to victims to increase their savings and income.
So, one of these schemes was exposed in Kiev at the beginning of last year. Malefactors offered to earn on investments, and for this purpose the victim needed to invest at least 11 thousand UAH. In particular, one of the participants of such a scheme was detained while receiving 400 thousand UAH from another victim.
Also, law enforcement officers exposed another fraud in June of this year. Under the guise of call centers, they called their victims and convinced them to make passive profits from investing. Then the Prosecutor General's Office reported that 15 million UAH was found on the blocked accounts of the attackers.
