Employees of the department for combating cybercrime of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Perm Territory, together with operatives of the criminal investigation department of the Tomsk region and with the forceful support of soldiers of the Russian Guard, detained a Tomsk resident suspected of committing a series of frauds.
It was previously established that the man posted advertisements on one of the social networks for the sale of confectionery and the provision of the services of an animator playing the role of Santa Claus. Subsequently, in the course of correspondence from fake pages in someone else’s name, he convinced clients to transfer funds as an advance payment for the ordered goods or services. Having received the funds, he blocked the pages of the victims and did not fulfill his obligations.
During the work, the police identified 117 episodes of illegal activity by the attacker. The victims are residents of various regions of Russia: from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. The total damage amounted to about 450 thousand rubles.
The investigation opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The suspect was taken into custody.
