The Investigation Department of the Minsk City Police Department has revealed the details of the investigation of a criminal case on fraud on a particularly large scale as part of an organized group.
According to the investigation, in October 2022, a 15-year-old teenager wrote in a messenger to his friends (16 and 20 years old) and asked for help. The young man explained to his friends that he was ill and urgently needed to be replaced at work. The young man got a job as a courier and promised the guys that if they agreed to help him out, the employers would reward him handsomely. The fact that the teenager works for phone scammers, he did not even guess and confidently told his comrades that everything is legal.
Without thinking twice, the friends agreed, because the prospect of making good money quickly sounded tempting. A satisfied comrade briefly initiated his friends into the main circle of responsibilities: the guys had to collect money from people at specific addresses and transfer it to "business leaders". To clarify information and get tasks, a friend added friends to the general chat of the Telegram messenger, where other group members actively discussed "working moments".
From curators, colleagues received tasks with specific addresses and contacts. The guys were carefully instructed to introduce themselves in front of customers using false names and pick up packages of money. The young men were not confused by these instructions, they were sure that they work for decent people and the business is connected with cashing out cryptocurrency.
In two days, the defendants managed to visit 5 addresses. The couriers were met not by wealthy investors, but by agitated elderly people who gave them strange packages not only with money, but also things. After the parcel was in their hands, the guys threw out the extra items, and the money was taken to the cryptocurrency user. However, not paying attention to such suspicious circumstances, the friends calmly continued to work, as they paid a decent fee for delivery, on average about $ 100.
In the course of operational search activities, young people were detained by police officers.
Investigators found that the organizers of the criminal group actively asked potential couriers to lure their friends into illegal activities. For such a service, they promised good money and further career growth. A teenager who asked friends for help was also paid for bringing friends. However, at the time of committing the crimes, the young man did not reach the age of bringing to criminal responsibility under the article fraud, and therefore a preliminary investigation was not conducted against him.
In addition, the investigation found that in July 2023, a minor, in addition to criminal part-time work, stole 200 rubles from a minor at the checkout in a fast food restaurant.
Studying the personalities of the accused showed that previously the guys were not brought to criminal responsibility. The teenager is brought up in a well-off family and was characterized positively at school, the eldest of the defendants does not work anywhere.
During the preliminary investigation, interrogations of the accused, victims and witnesses were conducted, and information stored on the mobile phones of the defendants was studied. The materials of the criminal case are attached to the recordings of video surveillance cameras and the conclusions of expert studies conducted by specialists of the SCSE.
The total damage caused by illegal actions of couriers amounted to more than 128,000 rubles.
The actions of the two defendants, depending on the role of each in the crimes committed, are qualified under Part 4 of Article 209 (fraud committed by an organized group on a particularly large scale) and Part 2 of Article 205 (theft committed repeatedly). Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. A preventive measure in the form of a personal guarantee was applied to them with the approval of the prosecutor.
Based on the results of the investigation, an idea was sent to the teenager's educational institution about the identified causes and conditions that contributed to the commission of crimes.
