Microsoft and Amazon are eliminating criminal schemes that have caused losses of millions and a threat to corporations.
India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided 76 locations across the country as part of a crackdown on cybercrime campaigns involving tech support and cryptocurrencies.
The law enforcement operation, which is part of Operation Chakra - II, is aimed at eliminating cybercrime groups engaged in financial fraud. International law enforcement agencies, as well as Microsoft and Amazon, participated in cooperation with the CBI .
32 mobile phones, 48 laptops and hard drives, as well as 33 SIM cards were seized in the raids, which covered several Indian states, including Tamil Nadu, Punjab and West Bengal. In addition, Indian authorities froze numerous bank accounts and seized emails linked to 15 accounts that provided critical information about fraudulent transactions.
As a result of Operation Chakra-II, the CBI found 2 fraudulent schemes with technical support that were active for at least 5 years. Fake call centers imitated Microsoft and Amazon support services. They targeted more than 2,000 company customers, mostly from the United States, but also from Canada, Germany, and other countries. The CBI also identified a fraudulent group linked to illegal cryptocurrency mining, which resulted in losses of about $12 million.
Based on the evidence collected during the operation, international law enforcement agencies are notified of the details of malicious campaigns for comprehensive actions to eliminate criminal networks.
