A student of KSU became a defendant in a criminal case, KOSTROMA.TODAY learned.

According to the press service of the Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, the young man was interested in hacking programs from the beginning of his studies at the university. He wanted to gain access to other people's PCs in order to collect data about codes and passwords.

Last fall, he found a similar app on the Internet, but with limited functionality. The Kostroma hacker turned to his fellow programmers and sent them the program code. But they didn't help him.

"Investigators opened a criminal case against the young hacker on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. As part of the investigation, a complex of complex technical examinations was carried out, and an evidence base was collected indicating the fact of illegal use and transfer of malware,” the report says.

The student himself said that he completely lost interest in hacking programs and data breaches. He may face up to 4 years in prison.
