What is the reason for the company's decision to bury its next service?

No sooner did we tell you about the problems with Windows network adapters that were caused by the incorrect operation of Google's proprietary VPN, Dobra Corporation suddenly announced the imminent termination of this service. The reason was its low popularity among users.

Google's VPN was launched in October 2020 and was initially offered as an additional layer of protection for users of Android devices. Later, the service became available for iOS, and then for macOS and Windows.

Initially, only Google One Premium subscribers could use this VPN, but later the company relaxed the conditions by including the service in the basic Google One tariff with 100 GB of disk space.

It is very noteworthy that the service will not be closed for everyone: the company will retain access to it for owners of Pixel smartphones and subscribers of the Google Fi telecommunications network. At least, at the moment, the company has such plans.

All other users of the branded VPN were much less lucky: in a few months, they will simply be blocked from accessing the service, despite an active Google One subscription. In the monthly expense item of such users, a separate item with a VPN from a third-party provider will appear, which is definitely not good.

Thus, Google does not change traditions and sends its next product to the cemetery of closed projects. If you add up all the company's services that have ever been closed, their number will exceed 200. Such a large number often shocks ordinary people, but loyal fans are probably already used to the fact that any project is quickly closed if it is not popular and does not bring the company money.
