Why do employees of a large IT company have to suffer from problems with their Internet connection?
Google, a company known for its Internet technology innovations, encountered an unexpected problem at one of its campuses located in Mountain View, California.
At the opening of the Bay View campus in 2022, the company claimed that it is an environmentally friendly and technologically advanced collaboration space. However, despite all the innovations, it was recently revealed that the company's employees working on this campus have long suffered from extremely unstable and slow Wi-Fi operation on the territory. So much for tech giant Google.
This is compounded by the company's requirements to appear on campus at least several times a week, despite the possibility of working from home, where the employees ' Internet connection is much more stable.
To provide the necessary performance, many engineers have to connect to the network via Ethernet cables, which causes unnecessary irritation and inconvenience.
As a temporary solution, the management suggests holding work meetings on the street or in nearby cafes with better Wi-Fi. And some employees were even given new laptops with powerful Wi-Fi chips to improve the connection.
The Bay View campus, whose roof resembles sea waves, is equipped with modern environmental technologies, including solar panels, geothermal energy extraction systems and rainwater harvesting. The company even published a 229-page book about the construction of the campus, without explicitly mentioning the obvious problems with Wi-Fi.
After employees raised a fuss about the problem, Google representatives confirmed the difficulties with Wi-Fi and said that a solution is expected in the coming weeks.
The company has never disclosed the cost of building the Bay View campus, but it is known that in total, about $ 10 billion was spent on the construction of Google offices and data centers in 2022.
