Once again, while withdrawing money from an ATM of one of the Ukrainian banks, I noticed an information message that asked me to make sure that the PIN keyboard matches the image on the screen. After checking the image, I realized that the keyboards are different.
I examined the PIN keyboard at the ATM and, making sure that it was not an invoice, withdrew money. It was an ATM of PJSC Bank Petrocommerce-Ukraine. It turns out that they don’t know what the keyboards of their ATMs look like, or they differ from ATM to ATM.
Later, I began to study such information messages in other ATMs and realized that this was not a problem with a specific bank.
They also don’t know what their PIN keyboards look like in JSC Oschadbank:
They don’t know what their card readers look like in PJSC ProCredit Bank:
And finally, PJSC Privatbank simply discredited the very idea of fighting skimming with just the look of its ATMs:
In addition, that banks themselves mislead their clients and simply force them to ignore information messages about checking PIN keyboards and card readers, they also increase the number of actions that clients need to perform in order to withdraw money.
It turns out that this is not a fight against skimming, but an imitation of it.
