In the criminal world of digital scammers involved in theft of money and data from bank cards, their own slang (jargon), concepts and entire schemes for interaction with various services have developed, published on closed and even completely public thematic forums. A little about the dictionary of a scammer - “carder” further...

  • Carding is the general concept of a type of digital fraud aimed at stealing money and data from bank cards and accounts of the victim. It exists in several varieties: clothing - purchase of goods (usually in online stores), with subsequent sale; online - “draining” (transfer of money) from the balance of a card or bank account to your wallets; offline - physical duplication of a bank card and withdrawal of money in ATM or shopping in a store.
  • Pos-terminal is a payment terminal (including contactless) that is used to accept payments for purchases in stores. It is also possible to use a mobile POS terminal for paying a courier, which is often used by scammers to secretly read contactless card data.
  • Skimmer is a reading device that mimics the parts of an ATM or POS terminal. Overlays for the card reader and ATM keyboard are often used.
  • Cardboard, plastic (CC, Plastik, credit, debit card) - bank card.
  • Card-holder - a valid card holder. The card owner is always the bank.
  • Material is information about the card and all personal data about the cardholder/owner. As a rule, this can be the date of birth, mother's maiden name, document numbers, etc.
  • Fraud is an illegal fraudulent operation, another name for carding.
  • Track - information stored on the magnetic stripe of the card or on a contact and contactless chip.
  • DP (Dump + PIN) - track (dump) information from the card + card PIN code.
  • Chargeback (money back) - The procedure for returning money if the bank or cardholder notices something is wrong.
  • Ripper is a fraudster who deceives carders and seeks profit from his colleagues in the criminal business.
  • BA - bank account or personal account of the victim (PA).
  • Carded is essentially a stolen product/item purchased by a “carder” using the victim’s bank information or a duplicate card.
  • Stuff is a “carded” product.
  • A stingy person is a person who buys stolen goods for subsequent resale.
  • DOB - additional information about the cardholder (date of birth, passport numbers, etc.).
  • Drop is a dummy user who receives a stolen purchase. These may be unwitting recipients or who have been misled by promising some kind of benefit, as well as those who certainly know what product they are receiving and have recommendations from the “drop seller” and periodically participate in fraud, without accurately assessing the real risks of participating in the scheme.
  • Dropovod - a person who finds “drops” and supervises them, usually has a distribution channel among buyers of such goods.

In the real working scheme of “carders” there are no random people; usually these are scammers who have already accumulated decent experience and connections. Carders have their own percentage and supervise “combat” units remotely, without exposing themselves to attack. They can recommend to other participants in the “black” market the services of different links in the scheme and maintain the conditional purity of their reputation, but they also often engage in “swindling” of fresh personnel. In any case, there are no principled fighters against the “system” with the romantic image of a hacker from films - this is ordinary crime, and these individuals profit from ordinary people and can “sit down” for a long time under Article 159.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation with a term of five to ten years in prison.
