Cybercriminals attack Vitebsk region. Over 5 days of October, more than 30 victims were killed, and over 9 months,more than Br1. 75 million has already been stolen. BelTA learned this from the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
In the last 3 months alone, at least 14 accountants, as well as 5 directors and their deputies of state institutions, chief specialists and methodologist of departments of district executive committees, head of the planning and economic sector of the state enterprise, deputy head of the financial department of JSC and other officials became victims. Most of them did not notice the substitution of the Internet banking page and entered their username and password, as well as the text message code, on the fake page.
Among the victims, there are also those who were pushed by fraudsters to perform certain actions. So, for example, a 43-year-old laboratory assistant from Verkhnedvinsk was persuaded to apply for a bank loan in Telegram. As a result, Br11 thousand. she transferred money to the scammers. According to the same scenario, the attackers deceived a 54-year-old cutter from Novopolotsk. Through WhatsApp, under the pretext of saving money, the woman was persuaded to apply for an online loan and transfer almost Br10 thousand to the account of unknown people.
But 42-year-old joiner ZHRET from Vitebsk issued a loan and transferred more than Br22 thousand to unknown people who introduced themselves in Viber as law enforcement officers.
