A resident of Murino was able to steal 28.2 million rubles from an unnamed bank using POS terminals. The St. Petersburg police revealed only part of the 35-year-old man’s scheme, without going into its details.

On May 3, a bank representative contacted the security forces with a statement of theft. On the same day, the suspect was detained, which says a lot about the reliability of his scheme. Moreover, some time before his arrest, the man took a new last name and patronymic, officially changing his passport and other documents, but this did not help him.

“Operatives established that the attacker developed a plan based on performing transactions to return funds to bank cards using a payment terminal. At the same time, in reality, payment for the operations was not made,” says the message of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

The crimes were committed between April 28 and May 2 right in the suspect’s apartment in Murino. During the search, nine terminals were confiscated from him, and a criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft).
