In the Republic of Tatarstan, officers of the criminal investigation department together with the district commissioners of the Police Department No. 15 "Tankodrom" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Kazan identified and detained a 20-year-old local resident suspected of a series of fraud in the return of goods that he bought through the marketplace.
As previously established by the police, from October 2023, the young man created accounts on the site of the trading platform using unregistered SIM cards. Through such fake accounts, he purchased expensive branded smart watches and headphones, which were delivered to different pick-up points. After receiving the goods, the suspect opened the boxes at home and replaced the original electronic equipment with fake products with low cost, which he bought in advance.
Then the swindler submitted online applications for the return of the received gadgets, but took their dummies to the pick-up point. After that, the marketplace returned the previously paid money to him. The attacker sold the stolen property through free ad sites.
At present, the involvement of the young man in 33 episodes of such fraud has been established, and the total amount of damage caused to him amounted to about 3 million rubles.
At the place of residence of the suspect, police officers found and seized many units of gadgets stolen by him, which he did not have time to sell, as well as copies of them.
A criminal case was opened against the citizen on the grounds of a crime under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and a preventive measure was chosen for the duration of the investigation in the form of a subscription not to leave and proper behavior.
