Police and FSB officers detained the organizers and active participants of the criminal organization, who are suspected of manufacturing and selling counterfeit money. An investigator of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Rostov region opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes provided for in parts 1 and 2 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
"According to investigators, the criminal community consisted of several structural divisions and operated on the territory of seven regions of the Russian Federation. Some of the attackers in rented apartments set up printing fake bills with imitation security elements. Others were responsible for their wholesale and retail sales, both through regular customers and contactless methods. In addition, the defendants organized the operation of an online store in the shadow segment of the Internet, through which they sold criminal goods. Buyers paid for the fakes with cryptocurrency, after which they received the coordinates of the bookmark caches. According to available information, the organization has been operating since August 2018," said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.
The investigation is supported by operatives of the GUEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, their colleagues from several Russian regions, the GUUR of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and employees of the FSB of Russia. With the support of Rosgvardiya, they detained suspects in the territory of Moscow, the Moscow, Belgorod and Leningrad regions, the republics of Dagestan and Crimea. More than a hundred searches were conducted at their places of residence, as well as in rented apartments.
"Banknotes with signs of forgery in the amount of more than 20 million rubles, metal cliches, equipment and blanks for printing, consumables and other items of evidentiary value were found.
The seized items were sent for examination. At the request of the investigator, 24 defendants were given a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody.
All possible episodes and accomplices of illegal activities, as well as channels for selling counterfeit banknotes, are being established," Irina Volk said.
